Perhaps he only wanted to draw some laughs and not really scare people off, still a drunk man wearing a black-hooded sweatshirt and a clown mask while brandishing a machete taped eerily to his amputated arm was arrested on Tuesday while walking down a road in Maine.
The Maine State Police has identified the man as Corey Berry, 31, of Hollis. Berry was charged with criminal threatening. He was also later released after posting a bail of $200.
Berry was first spotted in Hollis but he ran into the woods. He was arrested and taken into custody after he re-emerged in Waterboro. Law enforcement said that Berry was intoxicated, but behaved cooperatively with the investigators. He told the officers that he was merely copying previous clown sightings as part of a prank.
There have been a couple of attacks made by men brandishing a machete across the world including the U.S. and in Europe, some of which have been suspected to be terror-related. One such attack happened early this year in France when a man attempted to attack a French soldier with a machete near the Paris iconic Louvre. The man later identified as an Egyptian was heard shouting “Allahu Akbar” while attacking the soldier.
The soldier was slightly injured from the attack while the attacker was shot and critically wounded by the other responding French soldiers.
