Did President Trump’s relationship with New Jersey Governor Chris Christie began to sour on election night over the use of a phone?
A new book claims that Trump dumped Christie for that very reason. The book due to come out today titled “Devil’s Bargain” by Bloomberg Businessweek reporter Joshua Green says that Trump -whom the book claims is wary of germs- was repulsed at the idea of using Christie’s phone to take a call from Obama.
The book claims Trump supposedly had an outburst and said:”Hey, Chris, you know my fuing phone number. Just give it to the president. I don’t want your fuing phone.”
Brian Murray, Christie’s spokesperson, however, quickly denied such claims by the book. He said: “The account in the book is complete fiction. Governor Christie never spoke to President Obama on election night nor did he make any arrangements for any phone call from the White House to be placed on the cell phone for the President-elect. Finally, he had no conversation on election night as was relayed in this book with the President-elect. The author should be ashamed of himself in passing off this account as true-it is fiction.”
Trump fired Christie as leader of his transition team, with then Vice President-elect Mike Pence taking over the post.
Christie was once considered to be the running mate of Trump. He had to settle for being the leader of Trump’s transition team but there were reports last year that he also fell from grace with the President-elect then for alleged “mismanagement” of the transition, and the lingering political fallout from the Bridgegate scandal Christie was involved in. His replacement as leader of Trump’s transition team was announced only three days after Trump’s election victory.
Christie also did not land a formal role in the Trump administration. Prior to his personal controversies, Christie was once considered as one of the brightest stars of the Republican Party.
