Donald Trump has stated that one of his main policies as the incoming president of the United States is to expand and improve the operations of NASA. Trump noted that one of his targets for the space agency is to carry out deep explorations on the moons of Jupiter.
Trump’s desire to develop NASA’s operations shows his deep dedication for the country’s space policy. In late October, he said during one of his campaign rallies that under his administration, he will fix what President Barack Obama and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has done to NASA.
“Over the last 8 years, the Obama-Clinton administration has undermine our space program tremendously,” he said. “That will change. So many good things come out of it, including great jobs. That will change very quickly under a Trump administration and it’ll change before it’s too late.”
According to the elected president, one way he aims to do this is by implementing a policy that will greatly benefit NASA’s public private partnerships. By doing so, the space agency will be able to receive proper funding and adequate investments for its various projects.
Aside from NASA’s resources, Trump also aims to change the agency’s focus from low-orbit missions to deep space explorations.
“I will free NASA from the restriction of serving primarily as a logistics agency for low earth orbit activity,” he said. “Instead, we will refocus its mission on space exploration.”
Under Trump’s leadership, one of NASA’s major mission will be the exploration of the moons around Jupiter. Specifically, many of these will focus on the moon Europa.
Back in September of this year, scientists declared that this moon houses a sub-surface ocean after discovering traces of water vapor plumes arising from its surface. Due to the large water content of this moon, many experts believe Europe might hold evidence pointing to alien life.
