Fake Noose! Jussie Smollett Investigated For Alleged Hate Crime Hoax
With all that's occurred in the past few days, the metaphorical noose is definitely tightening around Jussie Smollett's neck. At this point, the investigation has "shifted" since the two persons of interest have been released. In between the "attackers" being revealed as acquaintances of Smollett, one even appeared as an extra on Empire, and the fact that the bodybuilder brothers involved were jacked, jet black Nigerians, Jussie's initial claims seem to be unraveling like a frayed sweater. Some have pointed out the fact that the saga of Smollett with its surprises and twists is far more compelling entertainment than Empire, the prime time soap opera that made Jussie famous.
With Jussie's story falling in on itself it becomes the third major hoax of 2019. From the claims of Jazmine Barnes' murder being a result of a hate crime, the whole Covington Catholic school debacle turning red hats and smiles into "hate symbols" to Smollett's story set against a backdrop of Subway sandwiches, bleach, rope and "MAGA country."
Since we last covered this story, it has continued to fall in on itself. Jussie finally offered his phone records to the police about two weeks after the incident, but police rejected them due to their being "heavily redacted." About a week ago, Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson told Fox 32 Chicago reporter Rafer Weigel that Smollett would be "held accountable." This detail went virtually unreported in the mainstream media, but several right-wing sources and black news/hip hop news sites like Source, The Grio and Madame Noire were willing to share the information.
There was a bit of a false start when a leak from the Chicago Police Department regarding the case likely being a hoax was shut down officially. “Media reports about the Empire incident being a hoax are unconfirmed by case detectives, Anthony Guglielmi tweeted. Two law enforcement sources had spoken to Chicago reporters about their belief that the incident was a hoax, but shortly after that, Guglielmi made a new statement on Twitter: “We can confirm that the information received from the individuals questioned by police earlier in the Empire case has in fact shifted the trajectory of the investigation. We’ve reached out to the Empire cast member’s attorney to request a follow-up interview.”
Ironically, it was just shortly after Jussie had his time on GMA bemoaning the fact that he was afraid the two assailants in the surveillance video might never be found. He was unwavering in his certainty that those two men in the grainy images were responsible for the "attack."
Guglielmi said Thursday, according to Variety. “Supt Eddie Johnson has contacted @ABC7Chicago to state on the record that we have no evidence to support their reporting and their supposed CPD sources are uninformed and inaccurate.”

Now, of course, it's too much to ask for an apology, but even asking for some of the loudest of the rabble-rousers to even acknowledge it may be a bridge too far. Ellen Page broke down in tears on the Tonight Show with Stephen Colbert. Page blamed Vice President Mike Pence. Page has since deleted every tweet related to the incident. Nancy Pelosi followed suit shortly after.
Meanwhile, now MSNBC and CNN are pondering why no one was skeptical despite the climate they created that allows hoaxes like the "Covington smirk" to spread like wildfire. A week or two ago though, even black folks who expressed skepticism (like rapper Joe Budden) were being attacked as potentially homophobic. Don Lemon had said that he was in touch with Smollett, texting him daily since the attack. In some recent coverage, it's interesting that they don't mention the racial element, playing up the "homophobic slurs" instead.
We need to make every last one of these sell-out house negroes who supported & helped pass this un-needed Anti-Lynch Bill pay dearly for this. This was a conspiracy using that BS Jussie Smollett to get LGBTQ added to old legislation that was protecting real ethnic minorities.
It is also strange that shortly after having sent the hate letter to himself (complete with "mysterious white powder" that turned out to be powdered aspirin) he was tweeting about "frauds" and even mentioned how anthrax looks like sugar, salt and cocaine.

Things have become far more complicated since that interview with Robin Roberts at GMA though. Currently, CNN's Brian Stelter need to speak to Jussie Smollett, but he's only willing to speak through his lawyers. Meanwhile, those who formerly supported him are no longer speaking up as sources from CNN to BBC follow up on how Chicago PD is currently investigating him as the source of a faked hate crime. Faking a police report is already a crime, but having sent the threatening letter through the mail with "mysterious white powder" that turned out to be aspirin could make this a federal matter, especially with the FBI already involved in the investigation.
I almost wonder if Jussie didn't get his idea from yet another soap opera-esque drama series. In the "Fleshy Part of the Thigh" episode of the Sopranos, a rapper is offered to have a fake shooting to improve his street cred and raise his profile. Smollett had been having trouble with ticket sales for his tour supporting his second album until after the publicity bump which led to a sold-out show in West Hollywood wherein which Smollett declared himself the gay Tupac.
When the Nigerian brothers were released, Smollett hired a team of defense lawyers including Michael Cohen's defense lawyer who specializes in federal cases. In addition to this, he hired a crisis management PR firm that Harvey Weinstein used to quell any negative press related to his numerous improprieties.
Smollett's lawyers issued a statement in which they continued to cling to the idea that he is entirely innocent:
"As a victim of a hate crime who has cooperated with the police investigation, Jussie Smollett is angered and devastated by recent reports that the perpetrators are individuals he is familiar with," the actor's attorneys say in a statement on Saturday. "He has now been further victimized by claims attributed to these alleged perpetrators that Jussie played a role in his own attack. Nothing is further from the truth and anyone claiming otherwise is lying."
"One of these purported suspects was Jussie's personal trainer who he hired to ready him physically for a music video," the statement says. "It is impossible to believe that this person could have played a role in the crime against Jussie or would falsely claim Jussie's complicity. Jussie and his attorneys anticipate being further updated by the Chicago Police Department on the status of the investigation and will continue to cooperate." Meanwhile, police are now wanting a second interview with Smollett who had been only willing to communicate via proxy through his defense.
Jussie wasn't just a TV actor and musician though. He was close with Senator Kamala Harris who called him one of the "kindest" people she knew. He has been pictured with her, former President Obama, Valerie Jarrett, Maxine Waters and other politicians. Some have pointed out the irony that the anti-lynching legislation that Harris co-sponsored with fellow Presidential hopeful Corey Booker struggled for months before being passed unanimously after Harris and Booker touted what happened to Jussie as a modern-day lynching.
In a city in which there are over 2 murders PER DAY, 83% of which go unsolved, this narcissistic Hollywood actor #JussieSmollett sucked up hundreds of police hours. This is what happens when you believe emotions over evidence and value ideology over reality.

Got to love that legalese there. Of course, the brothers aren't falsely claiming Jussie's complicity and seeing as all they did was receive $3,500 from Jussie to take part in his little charade it's also true that they played no role in any crime against Jussie.
Presidential candidates Kamala Harris and Corey Booker were both vocal in support of Jussie Smollett calling the event a "modern-day lynching" the timing was convenient for them, considering the Justice for Victims of Lynching Act of 2018 was just passed unanimously by the Senate 2 days ago.
Uncle Hotep recently had a live stream about what he called "the hoax of hoaxes" and multiple commenters pointed towards the possibility of a conspiracy going much higher:

On Saturday, Chicago police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi told CBS Chicago: “We can confirm that the information received from the individuals questioned by police earlier in the Empire case has, in fact, shifted the trajectory of the investigation. We’ve reached out to the Empire cast member’s attorney to request a follow-up interview.”
Smollett's legal defense team, which includes Chicago criminal defense attorneys Victor P. Henderson and Todd Pugh, and Michael Monico — Michael Cohen’s defense attorney is notably silent apart from their prepared statements, refusing comment to AP, CNN and other venues.
Still thinking about the Chicago Mom's who've lost their children to violence and won't get 10 detectives sorting thru videotape for them.
CNN and others have reached out to Smollett's defense team to no avail, but it seems like he will receive his day in court soon enough. Jussie will appear before a grand jury to answer for potential crimes related to faking the hate crime. In the end, it looks like he gave himself just enough rope to hang himself.
