Spain is seeing a resurrection of its rightwing political parties. Whereas ‘Vox’ (a new anti-immigration party vowing to ‘make Spain great again,’ see our related coverage) is already surging in the polls and expected to enter parliament in the next few months as soon as regional elections are planned, the country also has to have a discussion about its former military dictator, Franco.

This is because the government wants to move the remnants of the former dictator’s body from a known site, called the ‘Valley of the Fallen’ towards a more low key place so that the annual gathering of fans of the military dictator dies out.

However, instead of quieting down the memorial of Franco, it has only heightened interest in him.
This Sunday there were significant incidents during a demonstration calling for the repeal of Spain's Law of Historical Memory, just two days before the anniversary of the death of Franco.

Marchers passed through the streets of the Spanish capital openly chanting "Franco, Franco" and giving nazi salutes.
At the same time, three female topless activists from the feminist group Femen staged a counter-protest action to highlight that the right-wing extremists' presence is a "national disgrace", to which Spanish National police responded by moving in and arresting them.

The protest comes one day after the Spanish far-right party Falange had taken to the street at night for the so-called "Marcha de la Corona" (a march from downtown Madrid to the Valle de los Caídos (the valley of the fallen) in honour of the party's founder Mr José Antonio Primo de Rivera).
