A mother felt comfortable and safe leaving her 2-year-old son and 5-year-old girl in the care of an 18-year-old young man as babysitter. She was shocked, however, to come home and find her toddlers alone, without a trace of the babysitter. She wasn’t prepared for the worse shock she was about to receive when she called the teenager asking for an explanation why he irresponsibly left her kids alone. He confessed to her that instead of taking care of the young children, he horrifically sexually assaulted the 5-year-old girl.
The suspect has been identified as 18-year-old Sage Smerk from Ohio. He has been arrested following his admission of sexual assault against the 5-year-old child that he was supposed to be babysitting.
The Summit County Sheriff’s Office said that Smerk now faces charges of rape and failure to obey an order of a police officer.

The mother learned that Smerk left the kids unattended for two hours. She found the deplorable act of Smerk against her child when she called him to demand an explanation for leaving her young kids alone.
Deputies immediately hunted Smerk down after the mother reported the incident. They later found the suspect driving on Mayfair Road and tried to stop him. Smerk, however, opted not to stop and instead fled toward North Canton.
During the hot pursuit, Smerk even fired an air pistol out the window of his vehicle at the deputies. He ran several intersections before he stopped. He was arrested as soon as the deputies caught up with him.
Summit County Jail documents say Smerk was issued a $300,000 bond. Additional charges are pending.
It is not clear what his state was when he committed the despicable act of sexually assaulting a young, innocent child. It is also not clear what triggered him to make a quick admission of what he did.
The condition of the child-victim is unclear at this point. It is also not clear whether Smerk was known to the victim’s family before he babysat or was just referred for the babysitting job.
