Reports have emerged in several US media outlets overnight suggesting that President Trump is indeed considering this option to deal with the large migrant caravan heading towards the Mexico-US border.

According to an unnamed federal law-enforcement official familiar with the discussions, the Wall Street Journal was informed that the Trump administration is indeed considering such a plan to block ports of entry to migrants (including asylum seekers), with several options expected to be delivered to the Department of Homeland Security, who would then decide on a further course of action.

It comes after the US President had been sending out warnings on social media about the large caravan of Central American immigrants progressing north toward the US. Although they are still more than 1,000 miles and weeks away on foot, Mr Trump wishes to place the issue as a topic for the upcoming midterm elections.

Meanwhile the Pentagon confirmed that Defence Secretary James Mattis was drawing up plans to deploy a bare minimum of 800 troops to the US-Mexico border to help stop the migrant group.

Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen late Thursday offered vague reassurances of the plan in comments to the press, stating: “we do not have any intention right now to shoot at people, but they will be apprehended, however,” adding in a menacing warning that soldiers would “have the ability of force to defend themselves” if they need to.

These people have been lied to through commercials and radio inviting them to join a paid caravan to America. Yes I agree. I don't think for one minute, the majority of those people have loaded their kids walked thousands of exhausting miles in blazing heat, facing dangerous possibilities of traveling the roads, fully knowing they would only end up facing an army and hostility, and refusal to enter, when they got to where they are going.
