UFC 229 - Post Fight Assault Leads To Three Khabib Team Members Being Arrested (Video)

UFC 229 was an epic card, and every fight was just as entertaining as the last, but when the main event of the night ended with a submission by Khabib Nurmagomedov that was only the start of the true chaos. Despite an amazing fight where Khabib had Conor against the ropes almost every round, the night had to end with a terrible bout of unsportsmanlike conduct. The unfortunate incident occurred immediately after the fight ended with Conor tapping out.

As soon as the referee called an end to the fight as Conor was helplessly tapping, Khabib ran to Conor's corner, threw his mouthpiece to the ground, and leaped passed security to jump the octagon fence and began attacking either Conor's coach or another team member. The unexpected assault caused a stampede as members from both teams rushed to the altercation. Shortly after the melee, a video was uploaded to Twitter showing a member of Khabib's team being arrested.

Within 30 minutes of the main event's explosive ending, UFC's Dana White was interviewed, and he said that three members of Khabib's team were arrested and charges will be filed. It is likely those charges stem from the assault on Conor after the fight.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-conversation="none" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Dana White says three members of Khabib&#39;s team have been arrested and are on their way to jail, will be charges filed. <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/UFC229?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#UFC229</a> <a href="https://t.co/EW0dtBc8Rj">pic.twitter.com/EW0dtBc8Rj</a></p>&mdash; pat muldowney (@patmuldowney) <a href="https://twitter.com/patmuldowney/status/1048811311184801792?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">October 7, 2018</a></blockquote>

While the initial assault carried out by Khabib was taking place, the UFC security was doing everything in its power to hold back the surging mob. In that moment of distraction, at least two members of Khabib's team entered the octagon, one pushed through the gate and distracted Conor with a frontal assault while a second jumped over the octagon fence behind Conor and began sucker punching him.

It took several moments for enough security to respond to break up the fight taking place in the octagon. Conor has always prided himself in his good sportsmanship and even says there is honor in victory and honor in defeat which underlines his approach to losing a fight. Conor is always respectful of his opponent after the match although he is known for his antics outside of the octagon. Conor recently threw a dolly at Khabib's bus injuring a person inside. Conor and one of his friends were both arrested and charged with the assault. Now, the tables have turned, and it is Conor's fans calling for Khabib's team to be charged with assault.

Here is a slightly closer angle of the moment that Conor is jumped by Khabib's teammates inside the octagon. Joe Rogan expressed extreme disappointment with what happened after the fight and said that the night would remain a "black eye" for the sport. Joe's fellow casters pointed out how personally Khabib took Conor's insults during the conferences leading up to the fight.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Here’s the two filthy cowards who attacked <a href="https://twitter.com/TheNotoriousMMA?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@TheNotoriousMMA</a> at <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/UFC229?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#UFC229</a> tonight. Does talking trash justify assaulting someone? How many times will this have to come up until people figure out that assault is illegal and wrong under all circumstances? One should not be assaulted for their political views, and they shouldn't be assaulted for making some disparaging remarks in a business where the goal is to talk trash to one another to hype up the fight.

I don't think Conor did anything wrong here and I think he handled himself well after the defeat. He seemed to know from the moment the fight began he was in trouble when Khabib took him to the ground and dominated him. The usual cockiness was nowhere to be found on the Irish fighter's face as Khabib seemed to never run out of energy.

Finally, during the third round, Conor began to get his groove back a bit and we saw some of the old Conor McGregor from two years ago. I can't help but wonder if what we saw tonight regarding the fight was reminiscent of Rhonda Rousey's final performance in the octagon. Rousey had a look on her face that she just didn't know what she was doing there and she was dominated by Holly Holm.

It seems that after making $100 million for his fight with Floyd Mayweather, Conor may have lost that fire inside that drove the fighter in him. After all, what else is there to look forward to or to work toward? Conor can retire and never work another day in his life. Or perhaps it was the two years off from fighting that left the Irish fighter a little rusty. Either way, the UFC announcer did announce Khabib as the winner, but Dana White refused to put the belt on Khabib.

Man these people are acting like animals up in & out of the ring.

Conor seemed to be the only professional up there.

That fight made me happy. It felt good seeing all that misplaced Irish pride in Connor evaporate as the dude was shown his place against the mat. It felt good watching the Irish reputation for post-sport rowdyness completely disappear as they were outshined and beaten the fuck down by the better team of a better fighter.

If you don't want to get hit, don't talk shit. Deep down the Irish are weak pussies that can't handle the the fight whenever somebody actually calls their bluff, just like every other kind of eurotrash.

They may have stripped Kabib of the winnings and given it to Connor, so the Irish failure has some extra pocket money to dump into cocaine and hookers with his jew friends. But Kabib won, and his team rubbed that fact into Connor's gay little friends in legendary fashion.

Yes Khabib jumped the fence, but only because Dillon Dannis had been talking trash through the whole fight. As for the brawl inside the cage watch all of the footage, Connor threw the first punch.
