The Middleton City Administrator Mike Davis said that the shooting wounded four civilians, and police responded quickly to subdue the would-be killer.

"It appears the situation is stable now," Administrator Davis said. "The bad news is that there were four injured by the suspect.”

Middleton Police Chief Charles Foulke said that the unidentified suspect was critically injured after his officers opened fire, and taken to a local area hospital.

The hospital treating victims turns out to be at the University of Washington, where spokeswoman Lisa Brunette has confirmed three of the victims are being treated.

In addition to those three, one more patient is now undergoing emergency medical treatment at St. Mary's Hospital5as a result of the chaotic shooting on 1850 Deming Way in Middleton.

A buzz on the ground, although unconfirmed at this time, is that the gunman was a disgruntled WTS Paradigm representative recently fired from their respective job.

Multiple companies are located at the address, including Branch2, a software company; Compass Properties, a realtor; Care Fusion, a medical supply store; and WTS Paradigm, a software designer.

Another witness to the shooting says law enforcement moved him and other civilians to a nearby hotel to escape, and he's grateful.

“Oh my God,” the man said he texted his wife just as the bullets began flying at 10:28 AM this morning.

He says he heard repeated shots, at least a dozen, along with police officers screaming commands and emergency sirens.

“The walls in the office aren’t thick enough,” he says he contemplated as he faced down the grim reaper in a potential life or death situation.

He says at about that time he saw a female victim with a gunshot to her shoulder scratching at the floor for help.

“She was definitely in pain,” he said.

An ambulance driver rushed onward in her direction, bringing with him supplies and oxygen.

The WTS Paradigm software design company dates back to its founding in 1999, by CEO Nate Herbst and Lyn Hartl.

WTS Paradigm makes software the enormous building products industry, and was ranked by Inc. magazine in 2014 and 2015 among the “nation’s fastest-growing businesses.”

The company’s website was disabled as of Wednesday afternoon.

Lance Muzzillo, who works at Sentry Insurance on the fourth story, says he was in a conference call when he heard the commotion.

“I didn’t hear anything," Muzzillo said. "It was quick. We were on lockdown for maybe 45 minutes and then we had Dane County Sheriff's officers come up and account for everybody on our floor and then escort us down to this spot.”

He ended up stranded with 40 other employees, awaiting a bus to the Hilton Garden Inn down the road.

Kris Cotharn was on the second floor of IMEG, a building directly across from WTS Paradigm.

“When we saw the police enter the building I told everyone ‘away from the windows.’ We waited in our locked office until the police came and escorted us out.”

Middleton Police and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosive all responded to the scene.
