Texas - Mom Teaches ‘Bully’ Son a Lesson By Making Him Wear a “I am a Bully” Shirt

A mother from Splendora, Texas will not condone her child’s bullying ways in school but she had a rather strange way of punishing him for it, which others are claiming is tantamount to bullying, too.

The mother who insisted on being called by her first name only, Star, shared how her son was being a bully in school by calling other boys “stupid” and “idiots.”

Star disapproved of her child’s bullying ways, and to teach him a lesson, she had him go to school on Friday wearing a shirt that reads “I am a bully.”

Star defended her move and said: “I am a very old school parent. I don’t coddle my children. I don’t sugarcoat the world to them.”

The mother and her odd way of disciplining her child also went the extra mile by posting pictures of her child with the said shirt on Facebook. She explained, however, that she didn’t do it to embarrass her fifth-grader.

Star defended her actions and said: “I posted it to reach out to the parents of any kids my son may have bullied so that each one of them could get a personal apology.”

Her post was not received well by many, if not most, social media users who saw her post. Due to the negative comments, Star was forced to remove the said contentious post. She said, however, that she is standing by her decision to have her child wear the “I am a bully” shirt.

Star insisted: “I wanted to know what he learned from it and he said, ‘I learned that I didn’t like the way that I felt and I don’t want anybody else to fee; that way because of me. That’s exactly what I wanted him to take from it.”

A child psychiatrist, Dr. Richard Pesikoff, disagrees with Star and said what she did could do more harm than good. He explained: “Not a good idea to embarrass your child and solidify a negative identity in an elementary school child. She needs to find somebody to help her and I think the school is one resource.”

Star also said she spoke with her son’s counselor and teachers at Greenleaf Elementary and shares they supported her decision.
