During a baseball practice where many members of Congress were in attendance in Alexandria, Virginia.
What led up to the events is unclear at this time, however, a gunman raged onward into the crowd of fans opening fire striking Louisiana Representative Steve Scalise.
The scene on the ground is one of chaos where members of both parties are visibly shaken up and onlookers are asking how such a terrifying can even happen in the first place.
Alexandria Police Chief Michael Brown says his officers “engaged in gunfire and returned gunfire” to the assailant. Also, that before the gunman was wounded some of the Capitol Police Officers was hit in a hail of gunfire.
A spokesman for the Police Department has confirmed the suspected shooter was shot and has been taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Specific injuries at this time remain unknown.
A tweet from Representative Mo Brooks (R-Ala.) said “shooter attacked a GOP baseball practice. Rifle. 50+ shots fired. 5 hit including Steve Scalise. I am not shot.” Witness accounts also suggest 50 to 100 shots occurred during batting practice.
On CNN Brooks stated he heard a loud “bam” behind the third base during batting practice for a game against Democrats. “I see a rifle, and I see a little bit of a body and then I hear another bam and I realize there’s still an active shooter. At the same time, I hear Steve Scalise over at second base scream… he was shot,” he said.
He went on to say Scalise crawled out of the outfield in what seemed like a horrific scene from a Hollywood movie where there was a trail of blood leading to his wounded body.
Representative Scalise is the third highest ranking Republican in the House of Representatives. He is 51 years old and a Combat Veteran of the American Armed Forces. He is a father of two.
President Donald J. Trump tweeted “Representative Steve Scalise, a true friend, and Patriot was badly injured but will fully recover. Our thoughts and prayers are with him.”
At this time we need to remind ourselves that Democrats on social media are constantly calling for the Assassination of our President as well as wishing threats towards Trump Supporters and Republicans. When tragic events like these unfold the left has to own these actions and words.
Allegations from the scene are that the armed man specifically targeted dozens of Republican members of Congress. At least four people have been shot. Two officers, a Congressional Staffer, and Representative Steve Scalise.
The wounded staffer worked for Representative Roger Williams (R-TX). Representative Mark Walker (R-NC) told the media shooter “was there to kill as many Republican members as possible.”
