Russia - 5 ISIS Child Terrorists Killed In Chechnya (Video)

The Islamic State claimed responsibility for a three pronged attack on Russian security forces in the volatile autonomous republic of Chechnya. Authorities declared that they have killed at least five assailants - all of them children.

Via the terrorists, Amaq website, Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) claimed responsibility for the spate of violence on Monday.

ISIS stated that: "fighters from the Islamic State attacked Chechen police officers and elements in Grozny and Shali in Mesker-Yurt."

Mr Dzhambulat Umarov, information minister in the regional government of Chechnya declared that all attackers were only between 11 and 16 years old as he had information ISIS in the region has increasingly been focusing on sending teenage suicide bombers as they are seen as innocent by Russian soldiers.

Mr Rory Challands, reporting for Al Jazeera, stated: "These attacks appear not to have been particularly sophisticated or effective."

Mr Ramzan Kadyrov, Chechnya's president, who was visiting Saudi Arabia, claimed that a suicide bomber was able to detonate his explosives in Grozny and that the attack injured several policemen. He furthermore blamed extremist propaganda for "confusing the young men."

The attacks come just as Muslims celebrate the Eid al-Adha holiday.

The violence indicated the Islamist insurgency remains active in the mostly Muslim province, despite authorities' claims that it has been eradicated. It follows an attack on a Russian Orthodox church in May (see our related coverage) that left four attackers, two policemen and a churchgoer dead.
