A man was found dead in his home in Cannock just two days after he was confronted by a vigilante group called Soul Survivors. The group targets who they believe to be pedophiles and seeks to expose them which is apparently what happened to 47-year-old Nigel Sherratt. The pedophile hunters pretended to be a 14-year-old girl in chats on Facebook with Sherratt prior to revealing their true identities.
A video posted on Facebook showed Sherratt denying that he had done anything wrong when the group confronted him but has since been taken down. After some time, he eventually admitted to talking to the girl on Facebook which was actually a vigilante's account. A family member of Sherratt claims to have found him deceased on Sunday and said there was no investigation to substantiate the claims against him.

Staffordshire Police said the body of a man was found in Ascot Drive and that they had previously been in contact with Sherratt. Footage from an independent investigation showed Sherratt being led to a police car but police would not comment as to whether he was arrested. A spokesman for the Staffordshire Police said,
"Staffordshire Police were called to a house on Ascot Drive, Cannock at around 1.40pm on Sunday, August 5, where sadly the body of a man was found. We are not treating the death as suspicious at this time. The death has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct due to previous contact between police and the deceased."
The vigilante group Soul Survivors announced on Facebook it had received confirmation that Sherratt had "taken his own life". But was he actually guilty? The group's footage showed Sherratt sitting in his car while being confronted by members of the Soul Survivors about messages exchanged with their bait account.

"This is what you’ve text, this is your writing… Do you understand how serious this is?" one of the hunters told him. He initially denied contact with the bait account which was nicknamed "Ellie" but eventually admitted he "thought she was a woman". Sherratt continuously said, "I've done nothing wrong."
After the vigilante group announced Sherratt's alleged suicide, they faced backlash online prompting the group to put out a secondary statement saying, "In what we do this is not an outcome that we look to achieve and only aim to put it into the hands of the police."
