The co-founder of a feminist topless protest group called Femen was found dead in her apartment in Paris Monday. Oksana Shachko, 31, founded the Femen group in Ukraine in 2008 and their protests targeted authoritarianism, racism, and even Russian president Putin. Members of Femen said a suicide note was found alongside her body.

Inna Shevchenko, one of the feminist group's leaders said, "It is with great regret and deep pain that I must confirm the death of Oksana." Another founder of Femen named Anna Gutsol wrote on Facebook, "RIP. The most fearless and vulnerable Oksana Shachko has left us. We mourn together with her relatives and friends"

Friends and family of the victim are still waiting for "the official version from the police" according to Gutsol. Shachko was one of four feminist activists who created the group. In 2011, Shachko and two others were "kidnapped" by security agents and forced to strip naked in a forest after staging a topless protest Belarussian strongman Alexander Lukashenko.

Femen alleges the agents poured oil on them and threatened to set them on fire and cut off their hair. Shachko was abducted again during a visit by Putin to Ukraine, according to Femen. Femen's lawyer said Shachko was so badly beaten she had to be hospitalized.
