Kidnapping survivor Elizabeth Smart happily posted photos of her newborn son James on Instagram, along with her husband Matthew Gilmour and daughter Chloe, 2.
Smart said in her caption that “these people are my whole world. Whenever I look at them, I realize how fortunate I am. I hope I never forget what a blessing a safe, healthy, happy family is.”
Smart is speaking from experience when she emphasized the importance of a safe family. She was kidnapped when she was 14 years old in 2002 from her bedroom in Salt Lake City. The culprit was a homeless man employed by her father as a handyman, and his wife. Smart was rescued by the police after nine months just 18 miles from their family home.
The suspects Brian David Mitchell and wife Wanda Ileen Barzee were eventually convicted for kidnapping and assault.
Earlier this month, Smart also posted photos of her family with her husband’s parents and her kids’ uncle enjoying sunshine in the woods. Another photo Smart shared on Instagram shows her babies snuggling, where she also wrote the caption: “Nothing better than seeing my two babies love on each other!”
