Tina Turner’s Eldest Son, Craig Raymond, Dead at 59 of Apparent Suicide

Celebrity and legendary singer Tina Turner’s eldest son, Craig Raymond Turner, has died in what reports say is an apparent suicide at age 59.

A Los Angeles coroner confirmed to Variety that Turner was found dead at his home in Studio City, California, from a gunshot wound that appeared to be self-inflicted.

The singer has yet to comment on the tragic family news. Tina Turner gave birth to Craig when she was just 18 years old and then in a relationship with Craig’s father, Raymond Hill, a saxophonist for the Kings of Rhythm, the backing band for Ike Turner.

Tina later broke up with Hill then linked up with Ike Turner, joined his band and even married him. Their relationship, however, was marred by domestic violence, something Craig witnessed and he something that seemed to have affected him profoundly.

Born Anna Mae Bullock, Turner is one of the world’s best-selling artists of all time. She has even been referred to as the ‘Queen of Rock and Roll.’

Turner told in an interview with Oprah in 2005 that his eldest son was protective of her. She shared: “Ike’s children never reacted, but my oldest son, Craig, was a very emotional kid. He’d always look down in sadness. One day when Ike was fighting me, Craig knocked on the door and said, ‘Mother, are you all right?’”

Craig sought to have a life of his own, becoming a real estate agent and worked for Rodeo Realty in Beverly Hills.

His biological father died in 1996. He is survived by his mother and half-brother Ronald.

Social media users have posted expressions of sympathy for Turner’s loss.
