Michael Rapaport Saves Flight By Stopping Man From Opening Emergency Exit

The actor behind the bumbling roommate of Brad Pitt in True Romance has been hailed a hero after stopping a passenger from opening an emergency exit door while flying on an American Airlines flight. Michael Rapaport was traveling from Houston to Los Angeles when another passenger tried to open the emergency exit mid-flight.

The actor described the heart-pounding emergency situation in his podcast called "I Am Rapaport Stereo Podcast" on Sunday. Rapaport explained on the podcast he was flying with former basketball players Glen "Big Baby" Davis and Baron Davis in their first class seats Saturday. Suddenly, someone tapped him on the shoulder from behind and that is when the actor spied a man trying to open the plane's emergency exit.

"I got up out of my seat, half sleeping, with my headphones in my ear, and I put my hand on his shoulder, like ‘What the f— are you doing?’ He had two hands on the lever,” Rapaport said. “I said it three times, loud. The second time I said it, he still had his hand on the f—ing thing."

Rapaport used his size to pin the man against the seat until flight attendants and other passengers could get the man away from the emergency exit. The man later said he thought the door he was trying to open led to the bathroom, but not too many people try to piss out a plane door. Rapaport posted a video on Twitter about the incident. Fox Sports director Ted Kenney also witnessed the debacle on the flight and tweeted, "You can read more on my timeline. But Mike jumped right up, yelling wtf r you doing. Big 3 players jumped up as well but Mike grabbed the guy and stood between the door and this guy as he was holding him."

Rapaport wrapped the story up on his podcast saying, "Everyone thanked me and everyone did say I was brave and heroic. I consider myself a common man who does uncommon things. I’m not gonna confirm or deny this, but they’re talking statues."

Questions:

Where were the Flight Attendants prior to this?

Why was it a passenger initiated the challenge and physical restraint process BEFORE they arrived?
