The U.S. Border Patrol Laredo Sector Canine Program is looking to change that by getting national attention thanks to two of their K-9's and their handlers. The K-9's of the Laredo Sector Canine Program earned the U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s highest award for seizing the most drugs.

The K-9 wonders earned the National Top Dog Award for seizing the most marijuana and cocaine. Between them, the K-9's and their handlers seized 47,000 pounds of drugs valued at over $86 million for the year of 2017. The Chief also says the canine units are also responsible for aiding in apprehending and rescuing around 4,000 illegal immigrants.

To show off how honed their skills really are, the four-legged sleuth K-9 Nelly sniffed out an obstacle course that was clear of illegal drugs and passed the test. Next, Border Patrol agents exchange one bag with another containing contraband and K-9 Nelly instantly sniffed it out.
