Cy-Fair school district leaders in Cypress, Texas have just announced about their new policy requiring middle school and high school students to have clear backpacks.

Superintendent Mark Henry disseminated the new announcement to parents and students on Thursday, stating that the new backpack policy will start this fall for students in 6th through 12th grade.

School officials claim that the said decision was made with “input from a safety and security committee.”

Elementary school students, however, will still be permitted to use regular backpacks.

According to the school clear backpack FAQ, mesh backpacks and colored clear backpacks are also not allowed.

Students are still allowed to carry non-clear lunch boxes placed in their clear backpacks.

As to questions whether putting certain items in the clear backpacks constitute invasion of privacy, the officials say this: ”We understand the concern with the privacy of certain items contained within backpacks. Students will be permitted to carry such items in a small makeup pouch within the backpack or a small purse, sized 6 inches by 9 inches.”
