Dr. Klaus Beier has dealt the societal morals a hard blow. This is after he claimed that pedophilia is a fate, not a choice.
The leading sexual scientist runs a clinic in Germany that treats people who are sexually attracted to children. Beier told The Times of India that healthy society must accept paedophilia is a reality amongst us. The current estimates put the prevalence of paedophilia in the general population at about one per cent.
According to research carried out by the National Crime Agency in 2015, there could be as many as 750,000 men in Britain alone who may have a sexual interest in children. Dr Beier suggested societies should work towards prevention of such acts.
The leading scientist also said that it is a myth that paedophiles could stop having sexual fantasies about children by simply choosing not to.
He went ahead to emphasize that it is a fate, not a choice and that not everyone paedophilically inclined will act out. Backing a criminal psychologist that paedophilia is a sexual orientation like being straight or gay, Beier concludes by highlighting the same.
Thousands of people in need of help with feelings of attraction to children are voluntarily contacting Beier, who is the director of the Institute of Sexology and Sexual Medicine in Berlin.
The physician also said that sexual preference for children arises during puberty and remains the same throughout an adult’s life.
Dr. Beier said that despite the lack of choice in paedophilic feelings, it is not a psychic disorder and therefore people who act on their feelings are fully culpable for their actions, morally and legally.
He said that people who are not treated have high probability to reoffend. But, the probability is very low if they are treated and that's why it is important to reach out.
The physician also highlighted the success attained while working with juveniles as they accept guidance. The need for social surroundings, state of belonging and love from parents is critical as they cope with this disposition.
