Meet Huck - The Roof Dog

New Social Media Star Huckleberry The Dog Who Chills By His Owner's Roof

A dog in Austin, Texas has found a strange favorite spot to "chill" and his owners are perfectly fine with it even as neighbors and passers-by initially expressed concern for the canine's "dangerous" hanging-out place.

Golden Retriever Huckleberry has transformed her neighbors' initial fears and worries into amusement and admiration that eventually led to him even becoming a social media star. And the reason why random people and social media users are raving about him? His unusual but charming antics of hanging out on his owners' roof.

From his "lofty" position above, Huckleberry likes to watch over the neighborhood, even giving neighbors with barking greetings especially if they happen to be walking with their dogs and puppies.

His first spectators have expressed shock and alarm the moment they realized that a dog is on top of the roof. Concerned with his safety in case he jumps off and injures himself, the neighbors and passers-by would usually knock on Huckleberry's owner's door and tell them about the predicament of the dog on the roof. With the many friendly warnings and expressions of concern they have been getting for something that gives their dog joy, anyway, Huckleberry's owners Allie Burnitt and Justin Lindenmuth decided to put up a sign by their door with the adorable dog's photo and the sign that screams: "Don't Be Alarmed!"

The framed photo by the owners' door also comes with a complete explanation. It says: "Huckleberry is living up to his name and learned how to jump onto our roof from the backyard. We never leave him in the backyard without someone being at home. He will not jump off unless you entice him with food or a ball!"

The message comes with two kind requests, the last one possibly the reason for Huckleberry's rise to social media stardom: "We appreciate your concern but please do not knock on our door… we know he's up there! But please feel free to take pictures of him and share with the world! #hucktheroofdog.

Burnitt shared that there is around two and a half to a three-foot clearance between a hill in their backyard and the roof over their house. She said that they have been wondering when he would figure it out. It took Huckleberry about six months to figure out that the roof was an extension of the backyard, but the moment he did, his adventures also begun. Burnitt said that their adorable golden retriever goes up every single time his owners let him outside.

Huck the Roof Dog has gained more than 3,000 followers on Instagram, and he is now known in the online world as the dog who taught himself to jump on the roof from their backyard- where he chills by looking down and observing people and dogs, and every now and then heartily greeting them with excited barks as he seats very relaxed perched on the roof.
