Deputy White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders took complete control of what was sure to be a tough press briefing today.
After saying "Happy Birthday Scarlett," referring to her five-year-old daughter, it was go-time.
Regarding the timing of Trump's decision to fire Comey,"He was considering letting Director Comey go since the day he was elected"
When pressed further about the timing, she added "It's been an erosion of confidence."
The real boom that shook the room was detonated with Sanders explaining that Comey was fired because of "the atrocities of circumventing the chain of command in the department of justice."
This was followed by commenting on the liberal media freak-out over the firing. After all, they were calling for Comey to be fired for the last nine months.
"It's the purest form of hypocrisy"
“Most of the people that are declaring war today are the very ones that were begging for Director Comey to be fired. If Hillary Clinton had won the election, which, thank God she didn’t, but if she had… she would have fired Comey immediately,” Sanders said.
When asked, "Can we expect more firings at the Justice Department?"
Sanders responded, "Not that I'm aware of today," accompanied with a hearty laugh.
When asked why Comey was fired in the way he was, Sanders stated that it's never going to be a good situation when someone gets fired and that Trump followed exact protocol, which includes a hand-delivered letter to the office of the terminee.
Trump also had a list of senators and congressmen who were also to be informed as a matter of protocol. Some of those people quickly leaked the news to the press, which resulted to Comey finding out about his termination from a television set during a speech.
When asked about a divide the decision appears to be causing, Sanders suggested, "We need to drain the swamp a little further."
