A male inmate is making a strange request to help him and his prison mates "behave better" while serving out their sentence. The prisoner is asking for sex dolls to aid his kind release pent-up testosterone.
Jack Swarez made the odd request after watching a Channel 4 documentary on sex dolls. He believes having "silicon lovers" would make inmates more peaceful. Swarez argued that since prisons do not allow conjugal visits, anyway, sex dolls could serve as a simple alternative.
Swarez is serving a 17-year sentence for being involved in a drug-dealing gang. He said that based from what he saw in the documentary, he noticed that those men who have sex dolls "looked very happy and stress-free".
Swarez also learned that there are companies who manufacture those doll women and anyone who purchases such a toy can send a photo of a loved one and ask the company to incorporate their features into the doll. He also said that prisons are full of young men "filled with testosterone who would give their right arm for a bit of passion". He said that inmates' frustration of their situation makes the young men restless and wanting to cause mischief. He thinks that having lovers, albeit in silicon form only, could potentially "help alleviate" their ongoing problem and be able to " de-stress the wings of every establishment the length and breadth of our nation."
The inmate even suggested that prisoners like him, especially the younger men, could enjoy "date nights" such as watching soaps together, listening to music- everything that one normally does with a partner, and everything that can be allowed for inmates.
The idea may sound controversial but it is not the first proposal that suggests sex dolls can be actually used for therapeutic reasons. Kate Devlin, senior lecturer in the Department of Computing at Goldsmiths University said that the thing that interests her is the use of "sex tech" for the elderly in care homes because the mere thought of being told they will be put in a care home really infantilizes them. Yet she said they are still grown adults with the same amount of desire for intimacy, just that it seems such a taboo to admit. Such is especially true, Devlin said, of those who lost a husband or wife and they are feeling so alone, and perhaps sex dolls or toys are the one thing that can offer them a measure of comfort.
The authorities have not given their reactions or replies regarding the request-proposal of Swarez. It will be potentially open to arguments and controversies, of course. Some sectors and individuals may raise ethical questions about it, while others may raise logistics concern as to where the funds would come from in purchasing such type of toys. There is the possible question that tax payers may raise their eyebrows, if not their protests, for being asked to shoulder such a frivolous, if nor strange or even kinky request of inmates.
