President Trump has fired FBI Director James Comey. The reasoning behind the termination is not yet clear. Comey has been hated and loved over the last 9 months by both Democrats and Republicans.
The letter of termination was hand delivered and is effective immediately. Many have thought Comey to be "untouchable." Much speculation is swirling in the media toilet bowl.
The letter of termination was written by Trump himself.
“I have received the attached letters from the Attorney General and Deputy Attorney General of the United States recommending your dismissal as the Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. I have accepted their recommendation and you are hereby terminated and removed from office, effective immediately.
While I greatly appreciate you informing me, on three separate occasions, that I am not under investigation, I nevertheless concur with the judgment of the Department of Justice that you are not able to effectively lead the Bureau.
It is essential that we find new leadership for the FBI that restores public trust and confidence in its vital law enforcement mission.
I wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors.”
The day started out normally aside from some in the press curious about Trump's unusually light schedule.
The White House has stated that President Trump will not be making any direct statements to the press today. This is a classic Trump maneuver - he will allow the media to frenzy, make wild speculations and then calmly inform the American public as to the exact reasons for the termination. Trolling at it's finest.
Trump's Twitter account is void of Comey, the latest post is a link to a Washington Examiner article about manufacturing and job creation. The tweet was sent about the same time the news of Comey's firing broke.
