There's disturbing news to report out of Hanover County, Virginia where a Chesterfield County Sheriff's Captain was found to be in possession of child pornography after a raid on his home produced the illicit imagery.
According to local CBS news affiliate<a href="http://wtvr.com/2018/06/02/ashland-man-arrested-for-possession-of-child-porn/"> WTVR Channel 6</a>, 40-year-old Donny Lewis Dixon became subject of an investigation after the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children determined that someone from Dixon’s residence was engaged in the downloading of known illicit child pornographic images and videos depicting prepubescent children being sexually abused by an adult.
To make matters more disturbing, Donny Dixon is also a Captain with the Chesterfield County Sheriff's Office, who was just promoted to this rank on Friday, March 23rd of 2018, as reported by the<a href="https://vasheriff.org/2018/04/04/promotions-chesterfield-county/"> Virginia Sheriff's Association website</a>.

Sheriff Karl Leonard of the Chesterfield County Sheriff's Office says he's deeply disturbed by the news that his number-three in command would be engaged in such perverse and vile activities, and that Captain Dixon has served with the Sheriff's Office since 2004.
Dixon offered his resignation on Friday, where he's clearly shocked his co-workers inside the Sheriff's Department.
After executing a search warrant at Captain Dixon’s residence, the Hanover County Sheriff's Office located the child pornography and arrested Dixon on one felony count of the possession of child pornography.
To protect Captain Dixon’s safety while he awaits trial since he's a former law enforcement officer, he was transported to the Pamunkey Regional Jail with no bond.
The Hanover County Sheriff's Office is now asking for anyone who may have additional information about the investigation to either contact investigators at 804-365-6140 or by calling the Metro Richmond Crime Stoppers at 804-780-1000.

Dixon will appear at an arraignment and bond hearing later this month.

He didn't get the firing squad.
The charge was quietly reduced to Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor, a misdemeanor. He was sentenced to one year in jail - all of which was suspended (so no actual time in jail), no probation and no fine, but he was ordered to pay $94.00 in court costs. Best of all, he doesn't have to register as a sex offender.
I am sure his status as a law enforcement officer had nothing to do with this outcome.
Crimes against children deserve a firing squad.
