Israel has summoned the Dutch ambassador for explanations over a hit television program shown on public TV this weekend which mocked the Eurovision winner whilst performing a parody of Netta Barzilai’s song ‘Toy’ accompanied by lyrics which were quite critical to the Jewish state (see the video hereunder, accompanied by English translation of the lyrics that were changed for political purposes).

The lyrics, which referred to the opening of the US embassy in Jerusalem and the Palestinian protests, were changed to: “Look at me, I am such a sweet country. World leaders eat obediently out of my hand. And I put out all fires with a kiss.”
“We are having a party, wanna come? Soon in the al-Aqsa mosque, which will be empty anyway. From Haifa to the Dead Sea, there are fireworks and kosher satay. So just come and dance with me.”

“Is your country surrounded by rock throwers? Build walls like Trump himself has wet dreams about. Throw a buk-a-buk, throw a buk rocket. Look how nicely I throw bombs.”
“Yes, again, Israel is winning, Already for 70 years this party has been going on. Look how nice.”
The Israeli Culture Minister, Ms Miri Regev released a statement: “We’re not anybody’s ‘Toy.’ Even false propaganda and incitement will not defeat us. They only increase the size of our Netta’s achievement!”
CIDI, the Netherlands-based Center for Information and Documentation on Israel, called the sketch anti-Semitic: “Hi @SanneWallis, we heard your parody of the Eurovision Song of Israel. Full of ‘hilarious’ jokes about Jews and money and stuff. LOL!”

Dutch TV is known for its intensely mocking humor. Last year it launched a worldwide stream of parody videos with its ‘America First, Netherlands Second’ spoof which was copied in various other countries.
