China - 1 Million Muslims Held In Re-Education Camps, Forced To Eat Pork

It is probably no coincidence that on the first day of Ramadan, the holiest month for Muslims, various press outlets around the world are reporting this story. It would appear that in China's western province of Xinjiang some 900,000 to one million Muslims have been detained in Muslim re-education camps by the Chinese where they are forced to do all things forbidden in Islam, such as eating pork and drinking alcohol.

The Chinese are known for cracking down hard on their citizens in the western provinces who practice religion, but the stories coming out today are especially astonishing.

Muslims make up about only some two percent of the 1.4 billion population that China currently holds. Of course, given the country’s massive population and the astonishing growth of its Muslim citizens in number, statistics show that by 2030, the Chinese Muslim population will be the 19th largest in the world (it is expected to increase from 23.3 million in 2010 to nearly 30 million by then).

Mr Omir Bekali and Mr Kayrat Samarkand have informed the Washington Post in an interview that in these indoctrination camps had to disavow their Islamic beliefs and commit acts forbidden in Islam.

Mr Bekali: “The psychological pressure is enormous when you have to criticize yourself, denounce your thinking - your own ethnic group.”

“I still think about it every night, until the sun rises. I can't sleep. The thoughts are with me all the time.”

“There were so many things to recite, and if you couldn’t recite them, they wouldn’t allow you to eat, sleep or sit…They brainwash you, you must become like a robot.” Inside Xinjiang’s “ re-education” camps. His instructors in the camps would ask him: “Do you obey Chinese law or Sharia? Do you understand why religion is dangerous?”

According to Mr Bekali, he and his fellow inmates had to present self-criticisms of their religious history: “I was taught the Holy Quran by my father and I learned it because I didn't know better. I traveled outside China without knowing that I could be exposed to extremist thoughts abroad. Now I know.”

Chinese authorities did not want to comment on the stories.

oh, the trauma this must be giving them …. “Forbidden to you (for food) are: dead meat, blood, the flesh of swine, and that on which hath been invoked the name of other than Allah.”

Good, of all religions in the modern age that need to have their followers re-educated Islam is at the top of the list. Im not going to apologize for my view point considering all the knife, truck, bomb attacks done in the name of this religion…oh its only a radical element, I dont see the so called moderates doing anything to stop it, you know why, because its in their tenets to do this to non believers.

I am seriously conflicted about this. On one hand i cannot stand Islam and love to see its adherents suffer for their foolishness. On the other hand to see the Chinese abuse people so badly makes me angry!

Religions are dangerous. Almost every religion at some point has committed horrible atrocities. I am not against religion just don't subscribe to the push others into my beliefs part.

I agree with <26336> about islam/muslim and the so called non violent followers. If they are non violent why don't they try to rout out the violent ones by exposing them? BC of this I cannot trust any muslim. If they want to be trusted and accepted as peaceful, start calling out the bad actors otherwise they are all responsible for the violence.

@26338

Saracens are not people.

At least they aren’t simply murdering them or forcing them into the desert while also preventing them from reaching the wells.

I would imagine the attempted Mandarinisation of Chinese Muslims to become merely a catalyst for rebellion.

F—- the police!

Communism isn't much better than Islam, guess it's poetic justice.
