It’s not a surprise nor is it the first time that Democratic Sen. Elizabeth Warren has been referred to as Pocahontas. However, on Friday night, liberal political comedian Bill Maher said it right to her face.
The incident occurred during an exchange on Maher's HBO show Real Time. Bill Maher began exploring why the president's supporters, who are upset with establishment politics, backed him instead of progressives like Warren when his administration just introduced a tax plan Maher says benefits only the rich.
Warren countered by emphasizing on pushing back against Maher’s statement. In response
Maher replied by saying that President Trump’s fans are not with Warren. In an attempt to counter Maher, Warren held one hand in the air as he told Maher to hold on. However, Maher told Warren that people don’t like her, adding that she’s Pocahontas.
Maher’s smile was accompanied by a laugh from the audience. Warren merely blinked a couple of times, didn't take the bait, and continued on about the progressive message.
The Pocahontas handle is used by Warren's critics to mock the Massachusetts senator for claiming she has Native American ancestry.
President Trump used that nickname on Friday, at the National Rifle Association's annual meeting.
Mr. Trump emphasized that he has a feeling that in the next election, people are going to be swamped with candidates, adding that people should not waste their time.
Mr. Trump pointed out that the next election is going to have plenty of those Democrats coming over and people will say, no, sir, no, ma'am. It may be Pocahontas, remember that? Trump also emphasized that Warren is not big for the NRA.
