Georgia - Female Student Left Terrified After Being Followed by ‘Fake Cop’

A female high school senior student from Gwinnett County in Georgia shares her terrifying incident of being followed all the way home after she drove off campus on Wednesday by a man suspected to be a police impersonator.

Sydney Purnell and her sister had just left Mill Creek High School on Wednesday when she saw a tan pickup truck tailing them.

At first, Purnell thought that someone was simply playing a prank on her until she realized she was being followed. The senior high school student also said she saw a flashing blue light on the dash. Purnell also said the driver was honking at them.

Then the scary scenario followed. Purnell said the man went up to her car, knocked on the glass, and instructed her to get out. Purnell shared:”He comes up and knocks on my window saying, “I need you to get out of the car. I can see he has a knife on him, and he’s reaching toward the back like a cop would, acting like he has a gun.”

Something seemed to have scared or distracted the man since he decided to just go back to his truck and drove off moments just after the potentially dangerous encounter with Purnell.

Purnell admitted it was such a terrifying moment for her and her sister, as it felt for a while that there was no way out for them. She shared: “I tell my sister as we’re sitting there in the car, ‘If he pulls a gun on us, I have nowhere to go. That’s when I try to think through it in my head. What am I going to do if he pulls a gun?”

Robin Purnell, the student’s mother, called the police, and alerted social media.

After they reported the incident to the real cops, the police informed Purnell that the right move under such circumstances is to keep driving and call 911.

Purnell’s fellow students at school are also getting worried as a result of the incident. It is not clear if the school will beef up security around the school’s surroundings, and if they will orient their students on the security implications on what happened, and give tips to better protect themselves against such possible dangers.

No arrests have been made so far following the incident. It is not clear if the police will be actively looking for the suspect.
