He has done it several times in the past, winning the applause and admiration of spectators and followers. To him, immortality is something that can be achieved and proven. Until mortality proved him wrong.

A psychic medium died after his once solid and 'successful' performance of stabbing himself in the heart to prove his immortality has gone horrifically wrong. Theprit Palee, 25, was just performing a traditional dance in front of watchers yesterday afternoon as he is used to in Chiang Mai, northern Thailand. The dance is part of the folk ritual which is believed to honor the spirits of ancestors. Palee would impress spectators in previous shows by appearing superhuman when the blade he would use to 'stab' himself broke as it was pressed against his chest.

In yesterday's performance, the popular clairvoyant's act reportedly went horrifically wrong when in a bizarre accident, he unintentionally plunged the blade inside him after it failed to snap.

Crowds quickly gathered around the psychic and tried to save his life by reviving him, but he was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

A resident, Noom Udorn, said the tradition happens every year. He said the sword normally breaks without incident but yesterday, it went inside Palee. He said Palee had been giving psychic 'readings' to local people for several years already. Udorn shared that Palee was a respected medium. More importantly, Palee was well-loved by the people. He was one of the people's favorites.

The police also arrived at the scene when they were alerted that a man armed with a knife had stabbed himself. But even them could not do anything anymore to Palee's immortality. It is not yet known what effect Palee's death would have on the traditional rituals of the local people, or if similar acts like the one that ended Palee's life would be outlawed.
