A car hanging from a bridge has Toronto police wondering just how the car got to be dangling dozens of feet in the air. Locals in Toronto were shocked as drove by the scene where a blue sedan was hanging from Leaside Bridge. A quick emergency response followed the first sightings with police, firefighters, and paramedics all responding to the precarious scene.

Emergency responders discovered the car had been gutted and had no engine, or any passengers inside. The area around the vehicle was cordoned off with yellow tape, something police say they didn't put there. " A local named Victor Kwong reported the sighting to 911 during his morning commute. "I was carpooling into work, and a passenger — actually it was my mother-in-law — was looking into the treed area of the Don River, and she noticed a car dangling there," Kwong said. "It's not a normal sight to see."

The area where the car was dangling includes hiking trails that are popular with dog walkers. "We can't just have people pulling pranks like this, tying objects underneath bridges. It's not just a nuisance factor, it's the safety factor," he said. Police solved the mystery around 8 a.m. when they discovered the car belonged to a movie shoot although no shoot was authorized.

Captain Adrian Ratushniak of Toronto Fire Services said, "Obviously someone had intentionally put it up there because it was tied to a winch system." The car is described as a four-door sedan like a Honda Civic but with no interior parts. Crews got the car to the ground around 10 a.m., about three hours after the first call came in. "I haven't seen anything like this in 30 years," Ratushniak said.

Toronto Mayor John Tory weighed in saying, "I just saw some of the pictures myself that came from television this morning, and I was mystified as to how the car ended up there … I was just shaking my head in disbelief. It's just a lucky thing that it was dangling there, over something where there isn't a developed neighborhood or a school or a public park." The Toronto police say they have opened a criminal investigation and charges could follow.
