UK – Police Warn Butcher Offering ‘Big Breasted Birds’ And ‘Horny Sausages’

The sale of meat has seen a decline in recent years as more people switched to vegetarianism or even go full vegan. Furthermore, the health warning by the WHO of a maximum recommended 150grams per week of red meat has spelled out more trouble for local butchers.

One vendor in Staffordshire, UK has been able to keep his clientele though. For one because he uses humour in advertising his products.

All that could now change as this week Butcher Pete Lymer got a visit from local law enforcement warning him to tone it down a notch as to what he writes to advertise.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Leek butcher warned by police over &#39;risque&#39; adverts: Pete Lymer used sexual innuendos… <a href="https://t.co/ENRfMlF7V7">https://t.co/ENRfMlF7V7</a></p>&mdash; newsfinder (@newsfinder247) <a href="https://twitter.com/newsfinder247/status/991458558075179013?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">May 1, 2018</a></blockquote>

The offence taken by the police officers was over Mr Lymer’s famous blackboard used to promote his products. He wrote about ‘big breasted birds’, ‘big cocks’ and ‘horny sausages’ and recently added that you can ‘have your rump tenderised before you leave’

The 43-year-old butcher says he has been using humour to sell meat for years at J W Ash & Son, in Ball Haye Street, Leek, Staffordshire and thinks that the police visit is a simple sign of ‘political correctness gone mad’.

Mr Lymer: “We’ve put the signs out for years and it’s always been a bit of a laugh. Just after Christmas apparently somebody complained to the police, saying it was offensive. Last month a lady from the police came in and asked if we could pull our sign in. And a bobby came in last Thursday. They’re just doing their job so I’m not annoyed with the individuals.”

But when Mr Lymer took the sign down his regular customers started complaining to him about their absence, and so he quickly put them back.

“I think it’s just blown out of proportion. I’m not trying to upset anybody, I’m not the kind of person who would write something genuinely horrible.”
