Veteran's Father Tweets Trump About Unsanitary VA Conditions

A tweet from the father of a United States Army veteran to President Trump is gaining traction after his son was administered shots in what he calls "unsanitary and disrespectful" conditions at a Salt Lake City Veterans Affairs clinic. The tweet included photos of the room that he was seen in and there is garbage and overflowing trash everywhere.

My son is a Veteran of the United States Army. He went to the #VA in Salt Lake City yesterday. This was the condition of the room he was seen in. Very unprofessional, unsanitary and disrespectful. Please retweet. Maybe @realDonaldTrump will see it.
— Stephen Wilson (@GR8_2B_alive) April 27, 2018

Christopher Wilson spent six years in the Army and was deployed to Iraq twice. He said, "I figured they would say, ‘Oh, this room’s not clean’ and take me somewhere else, but they just kind of blew past it, didn’t acknowledge it. They’re doctors, right? So I figure one of them was going to say ‘Let’s go somewhere else’ or ‘Give us a minute to clean it,’ but nothing."

Wilson’s father, Stephen Wilson, was quite upset by the conditions in which his son was seen at the clinic. Wilson called the room "very unprofessional, unsanitary and disrespectful." The tweet has already garnered 14,000 retweets and 9,300 favorites and counting. "The condition of the room was the way it was when he went in, no other room was offered and no attempt to clean it up was made for the duration of his appointment," Wilson added in a subsequent tweet.

.update Thank you all for the retweets. Several local news channels have contacted my son and will be interviewing him. The Chief of Staff from the #VA has left a voicemail for him. This has gotten much bigger than expected. I’m appreciative to all of you.
— Stephen Wilson (@GR8_2B_alive) April 28, 2018

Dr. Karen Gribbin, chief of staff at the George E. Wahlen Department of Veteran Affairs Medical Center said, "I was taken aback by the condition of the room. Mr. Wilson should not have been placed in the room in that condition. The room should be cleaned, supplies and trash removed, before the next patient is placed in there. We are beginning our investigation into seeing exactly how this happened."

Gribbin confirmed that Wilson received injections in that patient's room but said any injection supplies "would have been used just on him." She went on to say, "My understanding was that strictly these casts are applied in this room but there (are) not other types of debridement or surgical removal of tissue or anything like that occurs (in the room), so I do not believe Mr. Wilson was exposed to any dangerous body fluids or blood. But regardless, the room should have been cleaned before he was placed in it."

When asked about the typical procedure for cleaning patient rooms Gribbin said, "We are investigating that. To be quite honest I do not work in that clinic area and I am not sure exactly what that process is. We will be absolutely clarifying that, making sure our policies and procedures are well thought out and well communicated to staff."

She added, "We will be holding a meeting with staff bright and early Monday morning before clinic starts in that area to review what appears to have happened and make sure that everyone is clear on our expectations." The tweet from Mr. Wilson has already drawn the attention of senators and several news organizations.

Clean your own fucking room, bitch. The taxpayers forked over a lot of money to send you overseas so you could pretend like you were a badass while you helped kill hundreds and thousands of innocent Iraqi men, women and children… Time to pay us back by learning how to clean your own god damn room.
