Queenstown 'Mystery VIP Guests' Finally Revealed And They Include Top U.S. Officials

Who's coming to Queenstown?

There has been quite an excited buzz the past two days in scenic Queenstown in New Zealand that got many residents and others interested and quite curious as well. It's because it has become quite noticeable that the local police were mounting such an extensive security operation in the area. The officials are conducting the type of rigid and meticulous security measures and checks that are fit only for VIP guests. So the question on people's minds there was- who's VIP, or VIPS are coming to Queenstown?

There have been a number of speculations thrown around as to the identity of the secret VIP guest/s. Fave pick was former U.S. President Barack Obama. That was, however, quickly crossed out as a possibility when authorities said that no current or former head of state was coming to the beautiful resort paradise.

At some point, even the name of Microsoft Founder Bill Gates also came up.

Then the office of Prime Minister Bill English's office said on Wednesday that the government was hosting a conference which will have for its participants " a number of senior officials" from overseas. While no further details were released by English's office, an NZME report reveals the identities of the mysterious VIP guests as possibly FBI director James Comey and CIA director Mike Pompeo.

The "resolved mystery" if unconfirmed reports are true would mean that breathtaking Queenstown would serve host to heads of agencies involved in the Five Eyes spy network. What could add to the likely truth of the report is that New Zealand's GCSB is part of the Five Eyes surveillance network which involves the U.S., Australia, Canada and the U.K.

15 agencies which carry out intelligence for Five Eyes are reportedly attending the conference. Australia's Director-General of Security Duncan Lewis is also expected to attend the security event.

Police officers have been tight-lipped about the guests. But it is very visible that security had been beefed up, and would include members of the police special tactics group and more than a dozen staff from Christchurch. The area has been the venue for other top-level meetings in the past. In November 2014 the military heads of the Five Eyes intelligence network also met in Queenstown, with the presence of a U.S. Air Force plane at the airport one of the strongest and clearest signs of high-level activity.
