France - Reinforcements At Italy Border As More Immigrants Enter Via Alps (Video)

The interior ministry of France announced it would be sending significant security reinforcements to the country's Alpine border with Italy as videos emerged on social media of pro-migrant activists helping large groups of African immigrants find safe passage from Italy to France via the alpine passes.

The incidents were spread on social media after protesting far-right groups had highlighted what was happening at the borders just as the tough immigration law of Interior Minister Gerard Collomb was adopted by the national assembly (see our related coverage)

"Faced with these unacceptable actions, significant police and gendarme reinforcements will be deployed”, explained Minister Collomb.

Just Sunday afternoon saw a group of some 30 migrants being aided by French and Italian pro-migrant groups as they tried to cross the the border at the Montgenevre Pass, but this resulted in with law enforcement officials on the way.

Mr Collomb declared that "violence was committed against security forces and a gendarme vehicle was damaged".

The smuggling of African immigrants in this manner via Italy to France was highlighted by several far-right anti-immigration activists who have been spreading videos of the group arrivals on social media.
