Human Rights Watch targeted a new market today, namely the Chinese job market, where it would appear that tech companies, both the startups and the known giant companies like Alibaba, have found a way to recruit tech nerds who usually stay single behind their computer and though there have been multiple complaints from several NGO’s and women’s activists, continue to do so.
In order to lure young these highly recruitable tech nerds to come and work for their companies, Chinese internet companies dish out all the beautiful women working there with ads featuring catchphrases like ‘I love tech boys’ and ‘they want to be your co-workers, do you want that too’.

According to Human Rights Watch, women activist groups in China were able to show some 36,000 job postings in the country where a predominance of sexist attitudes towards women in the workplace could be distinguished.
Ms Sophie Richardson, China director at HRW, said: “These companies pride themselves on being forces of modernity and progress, yet they fall back on such recruitment strategies, which shows how deeply entrenched discrimination against women remains in China.”

Furthermore, job ads for women in China tend to come with height, weight and age specifications or even physical requirements. For example, a 2015 job ad for an assistant for a court in Beijing specified it was looking for a woman aged 18 to 25, with “good skin tone” and “no obvious scars”. Furthermore, the ideal applicant would be between 5’3” and 5’6” in height and weigh less than 143 lb.
