California - Governor Brown Says Deal Reached For National Guard Troops

After a week-long feud that included a flurry of Twitter exchanges, the Californian Governor Jerry Brown says the state has reached an agreement with the federal government. Gov. Brown said the agreement will see the state's National Guard troops deploy to the southern border to focus on fighting transnational gangs, drug runners, and gun smugglers.

The announcement follows a week of uncertainty as President Trump called out the Governor on Twitter saying, "Looks like Jerry Brown and California are not looking for safety and security along their very porous Border. He cannot come to terms for the National Guard to patrol and protect the Border. The high crime rate will only get higher. Much wanted Wall in San Diego already started!"

Gov. Brown originally laid out a plan to send National Guard to the border in exchange for federal funding that included several conditions. Brown insisted that if California were to send National Guard to the border they could not be used to detain immigrants or build a wall. The silly posturing finally ended Wednesday when Brown confirmed he secured federal funding for terms similar to those he outlined in last week's proposition.

Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen confirmed Wednesday on Twitter that final details were still being hashed out "but we are looking forward to the support." After being called out by the President on Twitter two days in a row, Brown conceded Tuesday that California is willing to work together.

"There’s been a little bit of back and forth, as you always get with bureaucrats but I think we can find common understanding here," Brown said. "There’s enough problems at the border and the interface between our countries that California will have plenty to do — and we’re willing to do it." Nielsen along with Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey thanked Brown for contributing 440 troops Wednesday and said the 1,000 troops already deployed on the border mission were performing aerial surveillance and vehicle repairs.

Trump 2020 No. 23504 2018-04-19 : 12:22

I don't trust 'Commifornia' Governor Jerry Brown, but I do trust President Trump. Hope someone will do an audit and regularly check on his national guard and where they are and what they do.

Silly posturing this all Brown engaged in.

It changes nothing, we still get what we need Border protection.

Besides stopping ILLEGALS to check for drugs, weapons and explosives will take a while… An I am sure ICE will have time to quickly arrive an take any illegals off their hands.
