The Times of London has reported that President Donald Trump through the White House has insisted that he receive a carriage ride with the Queen during his visit to the United Kingdom this fall. The move is creating security concerns over his request to ride in the Queens golden carriage.
The White House informed Buckingham Palace officials that Trump is very interested in being part of a carriage procession up the Mall during his October visit.
Despite the fact that many world leaders such as Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping have taken a traditional stroll in the Queen's carriage, the former President Barack Obama chose to ride in his armored vehicle while visiting Buckingham palace.
The London police authorities reported that they are anticipating a large turnout. As a result, they told the Times that the ride will be a security challenge.
Various security sources have also indicated that even though they are able to add bullet-proof glass to the carriage, it is still extremely susceptible to an attack.
The source said that if President Trump is an armored vehicle he is incredibly well protected and on top of that it can travel an enormous speed, adding that if the President is in a golden coach being dragged up the Mall by a couple of horses, the risk factor is dramatically increased.
The London Police department plans to coordinate with the Secret Service to secure the area for the president's ride. However, the carriage ride is yet to be confirmed.
The London Metropolitan Police have already been making plans for Trump’s visit. They are expecting tens of thousands of protesters to descend on the procession route. As a result, they prefer that President Trump use a bullet and bomb-proof car that was previously used by former President Barack Obama.
