Algerian state TV switched an hour ago to a live feed of the site of a plane crash when a military plane (reportedly carrying some 200 people) went down near a residential area, leaving dozens dead on the ground as well. First reports have it that everyone on board died with rescue workers scrambling to get to the area.

A spokesperson for the Algerian military has already informed local broadcaster Al-Hadath that there are no survivors. Some 14 ambulances were already at the scene and injured people were being transferred to nearby hospitals. The Boufarik military airport is close to the Algerian capital, Algiers.

Ilyushin Il-78 is a inflight refueler like the older USAF KC-10.

A number were converted to cargo carrying by removing the fuel bladders.

But unless this crashed in to a village it likely killed a flight crew and 20-30 troops at most and not 200.
