A police officer was severely injured while trying to take a man armed with a 3 ft long sword into custody in the Whalley Range area of Manchester. The 23-year-old suspect slashed the officer with the sword in the face and shoulder but he is currently "making a good recovery" at home, According to Greater Manchester Police assistant chief constable Russ Jackson.

Jackson also said thanked the officer for "responding with immense bravery." The heroic act was caught on video which shows two police vans and a car blocking Demesne Road. Officers get out of the vans armed with riot shields and approach a man running from a house with a sword in his hands.

Officers back up and point tasers at the man instead of shooting him when he charges and they are very lucky no one was killed. They miraculously get the suspect on his back using batons and arrest him. Witnesses described the man's actions saying he was "attacking the police" with a "3 ft tool or sword".

Jackson went on to describe the officer's actions saying, "From there the police tried to stun him because he wasn't dropping the weapon… I don't know if the officer made a successful tase. He became even more aggressive and ran towards them with the weapon up in the air… from there the officers tackled him, pushed him over and then I think he ran backward and fell over."
"That is when the officer tried to disarm him, and you could see them using their weapons (batons) and they were hitting him on the legs - and he was not letting go," Jackson continued. "You could see him still hitting back while he was on the floor."
