Israel Mass Deportations Draw Ire (Video)

There were large demonstrations in the Israeli city of Tel Aviv against the planned mass deportations of Eritreans and Sudanese who’ve entered the country illegally since 2007.

Some 42.000 of them have been waiting in refugee camps and the Israeli government of Benjamin Netanyahu has repeatedly stated it would start deporting them as from next week until the country’s Supreme Court put a temporary ban in place. Israel’s government will respond to that on Monday with legal arguments at which time it is expected the deportations to go ahead.

The government has offered the migrants the choice, either leave in exchange for $3,500 and a plane ticket to an African country or be locked up indefinitely.

In order to put a stop to this, groups of peaceful protesters took to the streets of Tel Aviv to voice their discontent. Police said as many as 25,000 of them could be seen.

A Sudanese migrant named Monim Haron said he had "survived genocide" in his country and therefore came to Isreal.

"For 14 years the government has deliberately attacked its citizens with chemical weapons. Just this week, the region where I was born and raised was attacked again, and again dozens of people were killed, mostly women and children.”
