North Carolina authorities issued an arrest warrant for the mother in the video, 20-year-old Brianna Ashanti Lofton. She has been jailed on charges of child abuse, possession of marijuana and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Lofton appeared briefly in court Thursday before a Wake County judge who set her bond at $100,000 and ordered her to have no contact with her daughter.
Lofton's public defender, Caroline Elliot, said the charges are misdemeanors. "This is the first … kind of this charge that she has ever looked at," Elliot said. She also told the judge that her client lives with her mother and grandmother. "She does have family support," she said.

Police offered their thanks to the members of the public who brought the video to their attention hoping the woman would be held accountable for her actions. The Facebook user who uploaded the video is Rasheed Martin of Rochester, New York. Martin said he doesn't know the mother and first found out about the video when a friend shared it with him.

Other users then alerted Martin to the mother's Facebook profile and he provided screenshots of that too, "so everyone could know exactly who … did that to the poor little girl." RPD Lieutenant Jason Hodge said, "We appreciate the public's help in this matter. We welcome and encourage any assistance the public is willing to give us at all times."

when parents commit a crime against their child the court orders no contact between them, sometimes until the child is 18 or even 21 and even then only if the child is the one who initiates contact. so let this be a lesson to anyone considering doing anything illegal to their children. Even if you don't think its a big deal, you may change your mind when the judge says your not allowed to contact your child at ALL
