#StopAloYoga Trending On Twitter As Yoga Scandal Heats Up

The Alo Yoga scandal is heating up and the controversy has blown up on Twitter. Just weeks ago, if you searched Alo Yoga at Twitter you would, no doubt, find thousands of mentions of leggings and yoga stars affiliated with Alo and the Cody app. Today, if you search the corporate giant's name you'll see a lot of angry yoga aficionados making their voice heard. And those voices are none too pleased…

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">YOGA TEACHERS! — I need your help, please comment ‘STOP <a href="https://twitter.com/aloyoga?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@Aloyoga</a>’ &lt;— (be sure to tag them) in the comments below to stand against making yoga a commodity for big name brands. “If the leggings we wear don’t stand for something more than hotness, youngness… <a href="https://t.co/kj7Yc334L4">https://t.co/kj7Yc334L4</a> <a href="https://t.co/mASxgMkwbq">pic.twitter.com/mASxgMkwbq</a></p>&mdash; Natalie Cummings (@yogabusiness) <a href="https://twitter.com/yogabusiness/status/975004994008223744?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">March 17, 2018</a></blockquote>

As you can see, more and more people, as they become aware of the situation are incensed. Rightly so, I would say.

<quote>You guys remember when I used to practice yoga? I stopped a while ago. The world changed, rapidly, after yogis caught on to Instagram. Now, those who are trying to remain authentic are being taken down by corporate empire</quote>

The company is being referred to as bullies, and what would you call it when a subsidiary of a billion dollar a year conglomerate decides to use their fleet of lawyers to take someone down because they don't like what they said.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">.<a href="https://twitter.com/Alo_Yoga?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@alo_yoga</a> nice job using your corporate presence to sue individual yogis who do not agree with you bs market position. The Goldwater has been covering this story as it unfolds, but Jezebel released an article yesterday that painted the situation as not just the story of a David (Dana Falsetti) and Goliath (Alo Yoga) battle, but "a story of the modern battle between spirituality and capitalism, of broken alliances, of an outraged community, of the fight to define what yoga even means anymore." As Jezebel points out, Alo is a powerful corporation that boasts their wares being worn by the likes of Kendall Jenner, Taylor Swift and other major celebrities as well as a small army of major Instagram influencers. Like we mentioned yesterday, this scandal brings to mind the fiasco surrounding Lululemon and the danger that is presented by a world in which a couple of morally bankrupt companies like these are allowed to "own" the heart of yoga and, in doing so, murder its true spirit.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Good on you, <a href="https://twitter.com/KinoYoga?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@KinoYoga</a>, for speaking your piece. I&#39;ve only ever purchased one thing from <a href="https://twitter.com/Alo_Yoga?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@Alo_Yoga</a>, but definitely will not buy anything else after reading this. So sad. <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/AloYoga?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#AloYoga</a> <a href="https://t.co/9Ak8y299wk">https://t.co/9Ak8y299wk</a></p>&mdash; Kristin Luna (@LunaticAtLarge) <a href="https://twitter.com/LunaticAtLarge/status/975137696883642374?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">March 17, 2018</a></blockquote>

<script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Both Dana and Kino are extraordinarily brave for taking up arms against Alo and unless the voices of the people continue to ring out, the result could end in even more litigation.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Hey <a href="https://twitter.com/CorePowerYoga?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@CorePowerYoga</a> what’s your response to the Alo Yoga lawsuit? Lines in the sand are being drawn and sides are being taken, and as much as Elephant Journal (once again, rightly so) points out that yoga is meant to be a path of peace and union, not of conflict and separation, Dana was drawn into all this against her will and Kino merely stepped in to help. The rest of the division taking place could end any moment if Alo Yoga wanted it to.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Alo Yoga is a despicable excuse for a ‘mindful’ company.</p>&mdash; Coreigh Christian♋️ (@junesmoonchild) <a href="https://twitter.com/junesmoonchild/status/975133040300167168?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">March 17, 2018</a></blockquote>

When your company purports to be about raising consciousness and supporting positivity and personal growth but your actions involve marginalizing and attacking those smaller and less powerful than you, you're going to get called a hypocrite. Once again, rightly so.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">shame on <a href="https://twitter.com/Alo_Yoga?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@Alo_Yoga</a></p>&mdash; Kimberly Elizabeth (@Kungfu_Kimmy) <a href="https://twitter.com/Kungfu_Kimmy/status/975041222988455941?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">March 17, 2018</a></blockquote>

<script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

If you'd like to support Dana in her struggles, there is currently a petition and a sample letter to send to the Federal Trade Commission in regards to Alo Yoga's unethical business practices (which are, in the end, perhaps just one more nail in the coffin).

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Stand with Dana Falsetti against Alo Yoga&#39;s lawsuit - Sign the Petition! <a href="https://t.co/wTFj7hc2Fu">https://t.co/wTFj7hc2Fu</a> via <a href="https://twitter.com/Change?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@Change</a></p>&mdash; Raising Health (@RaisingHealth_) <a href="https://twitter.com/RaisingHealth_/status/975453421145853954?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">March 18, 2018</a></blockquote>

I was raised to stand for justice and support the underdog, so I am personally praying that as this plays out we see a change of heart from Alo Yoga and an end to the lawsuits, the unethical practices and a true change of heart that can be witnessed by a change of actions. Remember, the first limb of yoga has nothing to do with prana (breathwork) or asana (the positions) it's yama, the ethical and moral foundation of right action upon which the whole practice rests. Without that, "big business yoga" is just so much posturing…

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">The Alo Yoga injustices are appalling and I highly suggest everyone read up on them before supporting the company again. <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/IstandwithDana?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#IstandwithDana</a> <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/bodypositivity?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#bodypositivity</a></p>&mdash; ky (@kyrahvandiverr) <a href="https://twitter.com/kyrahvandiverr/status/976520327240003584?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">March 21, 2018</a></blockquote>
