WikiLeaks has published a fresh set that show how the CIA uses computer codes to hide the origins of its hacking attacks and disguise them as Russian activity. However, it’s worth noting that U.S. hackers have a common practice of compromising Russian servers which they then use for strobing, penetration testing and attacks. The whistle blowing site published 676 source code files which it claims are sourced from the CIA. WikiLeaks reported that the CIA masqueraded its own hacking attacks to make it appear as if Russia, Chinese, Iran or North Korea was behind the attacks. The WikiLeaks release was part of its Vault 7 tranche of files and it claims that the files can give further insights into the CIA’s Marble software. The software is capable of forensically disguising viruses, hacking attacks and trojans. The source code suggests that the Marble Software has test examples in Chinese, Russian, Korean, Arabic and Farsi. WikiLeaks says that the capabilities of the software would mislead forensic investigators by pretending that the spoken language of the malware creator was not American, but Russian. This will often lead investigators to wrongly conclude that CIA hacks were carried out by the Russian, Chinese or any other country that the agency wants to falsely accuse. The concept is known as forensic attribution double game. Julian Assange made a statement saying that the Vault 7 release was the most comprehensive release of U.S. spying files to ever be made public. Thousands of documents were released by WikiLeaks in the beginning of this month revealing the top CIA hacking secrets. The agencies capabilities were intriguing, from infiltrating applications such as WhatsApp to hacking self-driving cars. WikiLeaks emphasized that the release of the confidential documents on the agency eclipses the total number of pages that were released in the first three years of Snowden’s NSA leaks. Various experts have analyzed the documents released by the whistle blowing site and they concede that the materials appear legitimate.
