According to an arrest warrant affidavit, it started from an anonymous tip sent to Northwest school district officials last December indicating a middle-school teacher having a relationship with a student, and is now pregnant.
Katherine Ruth Harper, 27, a 7th-grade teacher who also coaches cheerleading and tennis was arrested this week and is charged with having an improper relationship with a student 15-year old male student. It is said that she is having sex multiple times with a male student last summer at her Fort Worth home and at student’s home in Trophy Club.
Harper met the teenager at Tidwell Middle School in Roanoke. According to the affidavit, Harper communicated 76 times with the teenage student over two months during the summer holiday. Harper and the student exchanged several racy text messages including naked pictures that were saved on the teen’s cellular phone.
According to the warrant, the school principal questioned the teen which the latter confessed about their sexual encounters. The teen said one thing led to another and the teacher told him to “put it in” which the teen obliged. Their meetings allegedly included drinking alcohol; the teenager was even performing oral sex with the teacher.
Harper is now 8 months pregnant, it is not clear if the baby’s father is the teenage student.
Harper has posted $15,000 bail this week and was later released from Denton County Jail after a three-month investigation of the allegation which ended last week.
Harper is on administrative leave status and could not be reached Thursday for any comment.
Harper was the latest teacher to be exposed with this kind of case. Late last week, police arrested Rebecca Goerdel, 28, on suspicion of having a affair with a student at the Young Men’s Leadership Academy at Kennedy Middle School in Grand Prairie, Texas. Days before that, in Lockart, Texas, police arrested Sarah Fowlkes, 27, after she was accused of fondling a high school student.
There are already close to 700 Texas teachers have had their teaching licenses revoked since 2010 due to allegations of immodesty with their students.
