Facebook Accused Over Anti-Muslim Riots - 3 Dead (Video)

Tourists were urged to return from the otherwise very quiet island of Sri Lanka after religious violence between Buddhists and Muslims left three dead.

The government blames Facebook for allowing the hate speech which led to the riots that left 3 people dead and has blocked all social media in the country for a period of 10 days. It has stated wanting an urgent meeting with Facebook’s management before it allows the website to operate in its country again.

Last week, mobs of hardline Buddhists rioted and lit fires in towns in the central district of Kandy. Immediately after seeing that this had been called for on social media, Facebook, WhatsApp and several other platforms were blocked across the country.

Mr Harin Fernando, the telecommunications minister stated that the Sri Lankan government blocked the sites after there were videos showing mosques and Buddhist temples being torched.

“This whole country could have been burning in hours. Hate speech is not being controlled by these organisations and it has become a critical issue globally.”

“Facebook is not reacting as fast as we have wanted it to react. In the past it has taken various number of days to review flagged posts or even to take down the pages.”

The government highlighted a social media post from a user who had called in the local Sinhala language to “Kill all Muslims, don’t even let an infant of the dogs escape.”

Other posts read: “hit them [Muslims] as hard as you can.”

The UN has started an investigation as the protests have led to 3 dead so far. The UN investigator Mr Yanghee Lee said “I’m afraid that Facebook has now turned into a beast, and not what it originally intended.”

Facebook released a statement in response to the violence in Sri Lanka: “In response to the situation in Sri Lanka, we have increased our local language capabilities and established communications with government and non-governmental organisations to support efforts to identify and remove such content.”

I think people will resort to violence in the US if facebook starts censoring all but leftist ideals.

Free speech is exactly that FREE, too bad if someone's feelings get hurt. Most Americans (besides the snowflakes) have a thick skin and can deal with so called "hate" speech.

Us Americans have a precious thing called the 1st amendment and as our constitution states "Congress shall make no law… prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press)

My answer to this is if you don't like what you are reading stop reading it, or if you don't like what someone is saying, don't listen. Easy Fixed!! Now the hard part is controlling the idiots that cannot stop from reading or hearing shit they don't like then getting violent about it.

I cannot wait till fagbook goes the way of myspace, or gets scattered to the wind in a anti-trust case, along with gargle and amazon.

Oh yeah, it's the Muslims who are victims. Yep better do even more globally to protect them.

So someone calls to kill Muslims and Facebook does nothing. Is he Jewish or what? :)

Muslim violence is all that is needed to incite violence against them. People get tired of their crap year after year.
