Putin Demands Evidence of Russia’s Election Meddling Sent to Him

Russian President Vladimir Putin wants Washington to send him hard evidence to prove that his citizens interfered in the 2016 U.S. presidential election. The controversial leader also mocked the countless accusations being hurled against his country and people regarding election meddling by dismissing the questions as “yelling and hollering in the United States Congress.”

Last month, the office of U.S. Special Counsel Robert Mueller charged 13 Russians and three firms with alleged interfering in the 2016 U.S. presidential election, in what was alleged as a “conspiracy” to support Republican Donald Trump and hurt the chances of Democrat Hillary Clinton.

Speaking to NBC TV with host Megyn Kelly which aired late Friday evening, the English voice-over of Putin’s words said: “I have to see first what they have done. Give us materials, give us information.”

When asked whether Moscow would take action against the Russians charged related to the U.S. probe, Putin said: “We can not respond to that if they do not violate Russian laws.”

Kelly went on to enumerate the allegations including claims of spreading false information online. But Putin again merely dismissed it, implying lack of evidence and said: “With all due respect to you personally, with all due respect for Congress, you must have people with legal degrees, 100 percent you do.”

Putin also insisted on observing formalities between the two governments involved. He said: “This has to go through official channels, not through the press or yelling and hollering in the United States Congress.”

Before the interview, the strongman leader of Russia has just announced an array of new nuclear weapons of his government. He also bragged that the weapons could hit almost any point in the world and evade a U.S.-built missile shield.

Putin also expressed his confidence in easily clinching reelection in the March 18 elections.
