In our earlier coverage on 25 February, we informed you how the Mexican and Italian authorities had been cooperating over the disappearance of three Italian tourists, all from the city of Naples.
During the investigation of their case, it was found that four Mexican police officers had made conflicting statements and were later arrested in connection with the case.

Today, the details have come out after the police officers confessed and they are very gruesome. According to the governor in the western Mexican state of Jalisco, the missing Italian threesome was indeed held hostage by the police, but the remainder of the story is unclear.

When the three Italian men (60-year-old Mr Raffaele Russo, his 25-year-old son Mr Antonio Russo and a 29-year-old nephew of the family, Mr Vincenzo Cimmino, who were seeing Mexico on a road-trip) stopped at a gas station, they were approached by a group of policemen who urged them to follow their van. The last contact with the home front was via a Whatsapp message of young Mr Russo who informed his mother of what was going on.

By now, the police officers confessed that they sold the three Italians to the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, one of Mexico’s most powerful drug gangs, for the sum of $53 each. That is what the parents of Mr Cimmino, the young nephew, said to Italian press they were told by Mexican authorities yesterday.
