Elvis Presley Is Running for Arkansas Congress

Elvis Presley is running for a congressional seat in Arkansas.

Not the long dead but still fondly remembered by his fans, “The King” himself, though, but his impersonator who legally changed his name to match his idol. Elvis D. Presley, the fan, and impersonator of the rock ‘n’ roll icon, has filed to run as a Libertarian for the 1st Congressional District in Arkansas on Monday.

The Libertarian Party has selected him as the nominee over the weekend. Interestingly, however, he was almost beaten for the slot by a “nobody” which goes by the option “none of the above” after some party members expressed fears that he could bring in the wrong kind of attention. The vote gave Presley a slim margin, 20-18.

Presley is no stranger to running for public office, though he has yet to be successful in his political bid. He made a go for Arkansas governor, land commissioner, and a state Legislature seat.

Presley will be up against Rep. Rick Crawford (R-Ark.) who also filed to run on Monday. Two Democrats will also try their luck for the seat: Chintan Desai and Robert Butler.

The district delivered for President Donald Trump in the election in 2016, with him edging Hillary Clinton by 35 points.
