Texas Police Officer Hit by a Vehicle While on Duty Remains in Serious State

18-year veteran RRPD Officer Charles Whites remain in serious condition after being struck by a vehicle Sunday morning. He was hit while on duty.

At 5:27 a.m., Round Rock Police Department got a welfare call about a pedestrian walking near Interstate 35. When officers responded to the scene, they found an already deceased person on the highway near Old Settlers Boulevard. The dead person has been identified as Amir Azad. The driver who hit the victim has yet to be identified.

Northbound Interstate 35 was closed to allow first responders to work on the scene. At around 6:40 on the same morning, Officer Whites were hit by a car on the highway near Palm Valley Boulevard while he was directing traffic around the area.

The driver of the vehicle who hit the officer has also yet to be identified. It is not clear yet, too, if charges will be filed against the said driver. It is not clear why the driver did not see Whites who was clearly in uniform at that time and given that it was also obvious that there was an incident that took place in the area, and police presence was visible.

As if one tragedy was not enough with Whites being hit while on duty, at around 10 a.m., lightning struck in the area of Officer Patrick Turck, Officer John Schultz, and law enforcement support technician Josh Lake while they were in the midst of investigating both collisions.

The three men were sent to the hospital for necessary check-ups to ensure their safety.

There are still no updates as to the ones responsible for hitting the deceased man found in the area, and officer Whites.
